His Own People is a novella by Booth Tarkington. Tarkington was an American novelist and dramatist. Robert Russ Mellin is a young American who moves to Europe to look for a more cultured life. In doing so, he fakes being wealthier than he actually is, in order to capture the interest of a stunning French woman.
