"Fathers of Men" is a coming of age novel by E. W. Hornung. Robert Heriot is the Principal of a private school for boys. Heriot prides himself on the school's objective to bring out a refined version of the same student, stating that, "we have turned a first-rate groom into a second-rate gentleman. 'The Child,' remember, and not the school, 'is father of the Man.'" His latest additions to the school are two young boys, the talkative Carpenter and the extremely shy Rutter.
